LOT OF TWO FLAGS: REVENUE CUTTER SERVICE AND WWII GREAT SEAL BANNER. The first is the canton from a U.S. Pattern 1841 Revenue Cutter Service (later U.S. Coast Guard) flag being a dark blue flag measuring 43″ X 56″. The dark blue cotton bunting is cut-out with a large spread winged American eagle and shield sewn in and an arch of 13 stars above. The eagle is of white linen and is undecorated except for an embroidered black eye and the shield on its breast done in red, white and blue. The rail of the shield has three stars upon it, one large in the center flanked by two smaller. This flag conforms to the 1841 regulations for the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service for the blue canton. Three edges of the canton are finished and one edge, where the red and white striped portion was attached is unfinished and a bit frayed. CONDITION: Very good, all colors are bright although the white eagle has faded to a cream color with several light stains. This flag is the canton only, the red and white striped portion has been lost. The second is a World War II period American banner displaying the Great Seal of the United States and measuring 61.5″ X 32″. Made of silk and embroidered, the blue banner has 13 embroidered stars positioned in a circle. Within the stars is a white circle having the Great Seal of the United States fully embroidered in silk upon it in full color. CONDITION: Good, the blue silk flag has severely faded to a mottled purple color. The embroidery is quite nice retaining strong colors.
