CONFEDERATE ARMORY SIDE KNIFE VARIANT. A variant of the typical pattern for this knife. It is possible that the armory produced brass hilt was re-fitted to a different blade during its period of use. Hilt is of cast brass in the style of the “diver’s type knife”. The grip and crossguard appear to have been filed down to a smooth finish with the crossguard reduced in size and the lanyard loop or ring removed. The blade is a massive Bowie type with a single edge measuring 15-1/4″, 2″ wide with a Bowie style point and false edge beginning 4″ from the tip. CONDITION: Very good, a dark patina overall, heavy crude file marks are evident on the blade with light discoloration and a few areas of pitting. 4-47573 CW (1,500-2,000)
