HOLLAND & HOLLAND SIDELOCK PIGEON GUN WITH CASE AND ACCESSORIES.SN 11987. (1891) Cal. 12 ga. 3″ Chambers (1938 Birmingham re-proof). 30″ Dovetailed bbls are choked Mod and Mod, and have makers name engraved on narrow game rib with extension. Coin finished action with long top strap which extends over comb, features Scott style pivoting third fastener, patent gas checks, automatic safety, and double triggers. Action is engraved with 80% coverage rose and scroll. Makers name is on each lockplate. Fences are engraved with deeper large shaded scroll. Bottom of action is engraved “Patent” “Hammerless” and “Paradox”. Nicely marbled and lightly figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-3/8″ over Silver type pad, and features classic drop points, checkering, and gold oval. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. Possibly orig makers oak and leather case has large paper H&H label in lid, and includes a large array of old accessories including cleaning equipment, chamber brush, turnscrews, snap caps, and cartridge priming and de-priming tool. PROVENANCE: H&H weapon history with specifications, and copies of ledger page. Information from Holt’s regarding sale of this gun and with invoice. Lifelong Collection of Gentleman Collector Herbert Hyatt. CONDITION: Very good. Bbls retain nearly all of an old re-black over considerable pitting at breech ends. Action cleaned to silver gray over some scattered light pitting. Stocks retain nearly all of a hand rubbed oil finish, checkering re-cut. Bores are very fine with some light frosting.
