HIGH QUALITY ALEXANDER MCCOMUS OF BALTIMORE FOUR BORE WATERFOWLER.SN 392. Cal. 4GA (ca. 1885). Approx 4″ Chamber. Exceptionally well filed and finished 45″ octagon to 16 sided transitioning from wedding band to round Damascus bbl, is engraved with McComus’s 22 South Calvert Street Baltimore address, used between 1884-1889. Bbl is stamped with Birmingham nitro proofs. Robust, case hardened, top lever action is nicely filed and is engraved “Alexander McComus” on bar action lock with tall serpentine hammer. No. “392” and Birmingham proofs are on water table. McComus production no. “2560” is at grip. Dense European walnut capped pistol grip stock measures 14-1/8″ over checkered horn buttplate. Long forend with horn tip has Deeley release. Bbl appears to have lots of choke. Weight: 16 lbs. 8 oz. Lop: 14-1/8″. Also included is a 12 ga. auxiliary chamber. PROVENANCE: The Collection of Robert Burg. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains a considerable amount of its orig finish with good definition to Damascus pattern. Action retains 10 – 20% orig color, strong where protected. Top lever has lots of orig blue. Stocks are also very fine with hand rubbed wear through orig finish. Bore is excellent, lightly frosted.
