RARE WWI GERMAN PILOT’S GROUP IDENTIFIED TO PAUL BRUCKNER.Grouping consists of rare WWI Imperial German pilot’s hard-shell flying helmet, goggles, 3/4-length leather flying jacket, and uniform cap. The helmet, named to pilot VZ/W (Sgt. Major) Paul V. Bruckner, marked inside with two ink inscriptions along with 1917 dated contract mark. No additional marks found on jacket or cap. CONDITION: Helmet is sound and solid with cracking and crazing to leather throughout, but intact with good discernible markings as can be seen in photos. Goggles are sound, unmarked other than small etched “W” on each lens, strap is complete, soiled overall. Jacket appears complete, including adjustable belt, red cotton lining is complete, with sewn repairs to tan cotton sleeve linings, tab inside collar for hanging is partially detached, missing one hard rubber button on left side of double-breasted front, overall sound and solid with dryness, scuffing, fraying to lining inside sleeves. 51233-1 JS (2,000-4,000) – Lot 1619
