EXTREMELY FINE FAHNER SCHUETZEN RIFLE. NSN. Cal. .815 x. 46mm, 30″ ribbed and grooved oct. bbl. Marked in gold on the bbl “WILH FAHNER/arrow SUHL arrow”. Right side of the action has a sculpted, engraved vignette of a bird and dog with gold line borders. Left side has a humorous scene of a fox looking at another foxes tail in a trap with similar gold line borders. Left side of the stock is carved with a scene of a buzzard overlooking a dead chamois with another buzzard flying. Bottom of the receiver has a sculptured kestral holding a rabbit and the triggerguard has a kestral on a tree branch. Right side of the stock has a full length carving of two hunters with guns on a mountain overlooking chamois on the opposite side of a valley. Other animals and foliage are worked into the sculpting both on the metal and wood. Bbl has a rib for a sliding rear sight but no sight for that rib. Front sight is also missing, the tang sight has four adjustment nuts on it. There is a sling swivel on the butt and a sling eye on the bbl. CONDITION: 95% dull blue on the bbl with scattered spots of light surface rust and pitting. Bright case-hardening colors on the sides of the action, thinner on top and bottom. There is a short crack, starting at the buttplate on the right side of the stock, otherwise the carving is very sharp, except on the bottom of the forearm.
