*SCARCE AND AND SUPER DESIRABLE P38, 480 CODE PISTOL WITH MATCHING MAGAZINE.

SN 3094. Cal. 9mm. The “480” code P38 was the first true military P38 purchased by the German military on an official basis. Limited production, estimated by Buxton at “approximately 440 pistols”, coupled with early issue, makes this a difficult pistol to find, particularly an all orig, all matching example with a matching magazine. Standard configuration with 5″ bbl, drift adjustable front sight and thick rear sight. Left side of slide marked “P.38/”480” followed by the full SN that is repeated on the left side of the frame, under the bbl, with the last few digits on the locking block. The “480” code is repeated on the left side of the trigger guard web. “Eagle/359” inspection markings on the left frame, right slide and usual small parts. Dark brown, ribbed grips with the lanyard loop slot wider than earlier pistols. Each of the panels internally SNd to the gun and inspection marked. Orig matching magazine marked “3094+” at the lower portion, left side. PROVENANCE: The Esteemed Collection Of Noted Expert And Author Warren Buxton. CONDITION: Slide cracked on both sides at locking lug. Approximately 80% bright orig salt blue with wear in expected places from being holstered and handled, particularly on the right side of the slide and on the front strap. Near excellent orig grips and matching magazine. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. An all orig, no excuse, “480” code with matching magazine will be the envy of many collectors. 51568-70 (3,500-5,000) C&R – Lot 1583
