WINCHESTER SPECIAL ORDER MODEL 1876 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 40-60. Standard grade rifle with 28″ oct. bbl, button magazine, half-nickel front sight and 1876 marked ladder rear sight with a thin base mid-range tang sight. Wood is uncheckered with straight stock and crescent steel buttplate with sliding trap. This is a fine, special order rifle. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter completely identifying this rifle with shipment date of September 28, 1887. SN 57335. CONDITION: Excellent. Bbl retains 97-98% strong bright original blue with only minor sharp edge wear and a tiny ding at the muzzle. Receiver retains 95-96% strong bright original blue with some minor flaking on the front flats and some light scratches on the sideplates. The dust cover retains about 97-98% bright original blue. Lever retains about 60% faded case colors and the hammer, 96-97% strong case colors. Buttplate retains about 30% original blue with the balance a light patina.
