WINCHESTER MODEL 73 SPECIAL ORDER RIFLE. Cal. 38WCF. Standard grade rifle with 24″ round bbl, button magazine, half-nickel front sight with semi-buckhorn rear sight. Uncheckered wood with straight stock and crescent steel buttplate with sliding trap. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum yellow sheet completely identifying this rifle as being shipped on August 4th, 1891, returned and repaired on 10-3-98, no indication what for. SN 389303. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl retains 93-94% original finish mixed with brown and some light surface rust over the forearm area. Receiver retains 93-94% bright original blue turning brown on top and bottom with some minor scratches on both sides. Wood is sound and retains 80% varnish on the forearm and 95-97% on the buttstock, probably an old factory redo. Lever retains 30-40% faded case colors and the hammer, about 75% dark colors.
