BURNSIDE SADDLE RING CARBINE MODEL 1864 FIFTH TYPE.SN 17022. Cal. .54. 21″ bbl with all features standard for this model. Military inspector initials on parts overall. PROVENANCE: The Timothy Scott Collection. CONDITION: Very fine. This carbine is in very fine to excellent condition and appears to be unfired. Bbl shows 95% of orig blue finish with only slight wear at muzzle and high point of sight. There is a small scratch on right side in front of forend. Bore is excellent and appears unfired. Receiver retains 95% of orig case color finish with only a few small scratches overall. Hammer retains 90% case color finish. Breechblock retains 90% bright blue with some loss at forward end. Lever and lower tang retain 95% of orig bright blue finish. Stocks retain almost all of the orig oil finish with some small dents on forend and a few on buttstock. Inspector’s cartouche is sharp and crisp. Bbl band and buttplate retain 70-80% muted case color. This is a fine example of a Burnside carbine that appears to be unfired. 50071-29 TEP (3,000-6,000) – Lot 1517
