SHARPS NEW MODEL 1863 CARBINE.SN C20769. Cal. 52 percussion. 22″ bbl. Blue and case colored finish. Straight grained American walnut stocks. Bbl has standard sights. Sharps address in front of rear sight. “NEW MODEL 1863” behind rear sight. Inspector mark “E.A.W.” on left breech of bbl. Rear sight has Lawrence patent mark. Receiver has Sharps patent mark on left side, Lawrence patent mark on right side behind hammer and “C.SHARPS’ PAT. OCT. 5 1852” on lockplate. Receiver has military inspector initials. Saddle ring mounted on bar. “J.E.C” inspector initials on bar. Buttstock has “WAT” inspector cartouche on left side opposite hammer. No apparent marks on forestock. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. “Bill” Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Bbl retains an even plum-brown finish overall with sharp markings. Bbl has a few slight scratches on top. Sights are very good with sharp markings. Bore is bright with strong rifling. Receiver retains silvered out case colors overall that blend to a pleasing gray-brown patina. All markings are sharp. Lever is a gray-brown patina. Stocks are excellent with very few handling marks and a very crisp inspector cartouche. Buttplate is an even silver-gray patina with some traces of case color. Screws are fine. This is an opportunity to obtain a model 1863 Sharps carbine in the orig percussion configuration as most of this model were converted to metallic cartridge after war.
