“BAKER BOY” GUM VENDOR MACHINE.An ingenious machine created in the 1930s with a most complicated and delicate mechanism. The premise being dropping a penny in the slot, this particular fellow dressed as a baker would take a scoop, open a door, twist to receive the gumball, and then return to his original position dropping the ball into a chute for delivery to the consumer. Sold under the name of Sanitary Chewing Gum, it was manufactured by Manikan Vendor Co. of Portland, Oregon. The lower glass window pictured the baker himself and the upper triangular window had a bevy of brightly colored gumballs. A classic & appealing machine enameled in green & red, the action alone would encourage voluminous sales of gumballs. This particular machine has great action and functions very well. Oftentimes these machines are very sensitive & finicky with regards to operation. Not so in this case! Machine appears to have overall exterior paint restoration but still interior paint is original as is the maker’s tag with directions. Very low serial number stamped on front plaque “C.95”. Obviously this is one of the earlier production models. A great classic vending machine with fabulous action!! SIZE: Overall approx 16″ t. CONDITION: As stated above. 1-14918 (3,500-5,500) – Lot 1508 Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll Auction - Fall 2014 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
