An exceptional turn of the century 2 column gum vendor in as found, all original, untouched condition. At first glance one would perceive this to be just another nice example of a vending machine. Upon examination and studying this particular item one becomes enthralled with a strong desire to own it. 1) Original oak wood finish has some alligatoring with age. 2) Behind the full front porcelain panel, upon opening the front door the original paper label indicates how to load, replace and maintain this particular machine along with the name of the maker/operator (RAILWAY AUTOMATIC SALES COMPANY, BROOKLYN N.Y.). 3) Interior of machine shows the 2 tin columns, each with a label, one indicating chocolate only the other indicating gum only. Another paper label inside indicates this machine is the property of “RAILWAY AUTOMATIC SALES”. 3) Perhaps the most important and interesting features are the full porcelain sides with advertising for multiple products from this machine. 4) On the bottom of the front panel there are 2 rectangular windows which have paper labels that are marred and difficult to read. A light cleaning to the porcelain sides, waxing of wood and light cleaning and lubrication of mechanism would certainly bring out the beauty of this piece. SIZE: 29″ l x 5″ d x 10-1/2″ w.
