LOT OF TWO U.S. FLINTLOCK MUSKETS 1795 TYPE II/1816 CONTRACT.

SN NSN. Cal. 72. 1) U.S. Model 1795 Type II Musket with 1808 date on buttplate and lock. Cal .72, 44-1/2″ rnd bbl. attached by 3 bands. Bbl is marked on top “U.S. 30 8 LA” in a line on top at the breech. There are also U.S. proof marks “V.P.V” on the left side of the breech of the bbl. Lock is marked “U.S.” in script over an Eagle over Springfield, in front of hammer. Tail of lock is marked “1808”. Stock is deeply carved “J.H. Reynolds”. Buttplate is marked “1808” on the tang. 2) U.S. Model 1816 Contract Musket made by M.T. Wickham of Philadelphia. 42″ bbl attached with 3 bands. Bbl has HP and U.S. stamped at breech on left side. Lock is marked “M.T. Wickham” in an arch over “PHILa”. Left side of stock is marked “V” over “CF” on left side, opposite lock. Bayonet is marked “U.S.” over “WR” and fits well. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. “Bill” Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: 1) Very good. Bbl shows a bright finish overall with some dark staining, especially towards the breech. Touch hole has been repaired. Markings are clear. Lock is dark gray patina overall with clear markings. Stock is very good with a bold owner’s name on the left side of butt. 2) Very good. Bbl is a dark brown patina with some roughness at the breech. Marks are clear. Lock is also a dark brown patina with clear markings. Touch hole is blown out. Stock is very good with clear inspector mark on left side. An opportunity for a beginning collector to get two orig U.S. Muskets that saw service in the War of 1812 and the Seminal Wars. 49973-55, 49973-56, 49973-249, TEP (1,500-3,000) – Lot 1494
