HORSTMANN MODEL 1852 OFFICER’S SWORD. 31-1/4″ dbl fuller blade is marked “HORSTMANN/& SONS/PHILADELPHIA” on the left ricasso. Blade is etched for 13″ on either side of the blade. Throat of the scabbard is marked “Captain/John Allen/Co.B/7th Tenn Inf./Conf.St. A./21stMay1863”. Despite the letters of authenticity for this engraving, it is the opinion of the cataloguer that this engraving was done with laser. CONDITION: Blade is bright, balance shows patina and wear commensurate with its age. Also included with the lot is much service information on Captain Allen including his service in Pickett’s Charge at Gettysburg where he was wounded and taken prisoner. The presentation date on the sword may be commemorative as he was fighting in the Battle at Chancellorsville on the date of the presentation. 4-45513 FS576 (1,000-2,000)
