SN 06849RR176. .22 LR Contemporary slide action rimfire rifle w/ 20″ round bbl and flip up rear sight. Steel receiver is blued and grooved for tip-off scope rings. checkered walnut stocks with Browning buttplate. 11 shot tubular magazine.Mfg 1977-82. The consignor received this gun as a personal gift from Ernest Hemingway’s oldest son, Jack Hemingway in 1988 when our consignor helped Jack Hemingway move out of his home after the loss of his first wife in Ketchum, ID. Accompanying this gun is a newspaper article from the Idaho Statesman dated Dec. 4, 2000 detailing Jack Hemingway’s life and passing. Article also chronicles Jack’s friendship with the consignor, generosity in giving away guns, fly fishing rods, books, etc. though this gun is not specifically mentioned in the article. Also accompanying this gun is a 2 page letter from our consignor describing the relationship with Jack Hemingway and how he came in to possession of this gun. Being sold elsewhere in this auction is a Winchester M12 also consigned by the same family that has the same lineage and is illustrated in the second edition of the book “Hemingway’s Guns”. CONDITION: Very good. Rifle retains most of its blue and wood finish with scattered light handling marks and oxidation from use. Mechanics fine, good bore. 51596-2 JWD (1,000-2,000) – Lot 1477
