RARE WHITNEY MODEL 1842 MISSISSIPPI RIFLE. NSN. Cal. .54, 33″ bbl brown/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Lock and barrel both dated 1850. Sharp “SM”, “W.A.T” and “JH” cartouches on the left side of the stock. Spare nipple in place in patchbox. Brass tip ramrod. CONDITION: Fine with most dull brown on the bbl and very dark colors on the lock and hammer. Stock is very fine with crisp cartouches. Brass has a mellow patina. There are several tiny repairs plugs in the stock apparently for dents. Bore and action are fine. 4-47505 (4,500-5,500)
