*SCARCE EARLY STYLE A. H. FOX “DE” GRADE WITH LATER STOCKS.

SN 18616. (1911) Cal. 12 ga. 2-3/4″ Chambers. 30″ Krupp steel bbls with broad matted rib, are engraved with steel type and “A. H. Fox Gun Co. Phila. PA.” Gauge and chamber are newly rolled on left bbl. There are 3″ triangles of simple scroll on breech ends. Bbl flats are stamped with grade, SN, and Fox proof. Typical case hardened action with automatic safety and dbl triggers is engraved with early style near full coverage of large open shaded scroll with punch dot background surrounding vignettes of dogs and game; a pair of fowl on left, two walking snipe on right, Two dogs (setter and pointer) are in mountainous background on bottom. “AINSLEY H FOX” is under each bird scene. Scroll engraved trigger guard has SN on tang. Nicely flame figured American walnut capped pistol grip buttstock measures 14-1/16″ over 5/8″ lengthening piece with checkered butt. Side panels are checkered. Fancy fleur-di-lis pattern checkering is at grip. Grip cap has large gold oval inset in bottom. Matching beavertail ejector forend with inlet ebony triangle at tip has usual Deeley type release. Bore diameter: left -.726, right – .725. Bore restrictions: left – .036 (full), right – .035 (full). Wall thickness: left – .028, right – .032. Drop at heel: 2-7/16″, drop at comb: 1-1/2″. Neutral cast. Weight: 7 lbs. 13 oz. LOP: 14-1/16″. CONDITION: Fine, possibly re-done by factory (a letter would be in order). Bbls retain nearly all of a good quality rust blue, engraving somewhat softened. Chamber roll lettering and Fox proofs are sharp and raised. Action retains 40 – 50% of its orig case hardening color. Stocks, possibly late factory replacements, retain nearly all of their hand rubbed oil finish. Bores are very fine to excellent, with some light scratches and frosting. Action is tight.
