EXTRAORDINARY CUT CRYSTAL THOMAS WEBB PUNCH BOWL SIGNED W. FRITSCHE.

William Fritsche was one of two principal engravers from the firm of Thomas Webb & Sons in the late 1870s and is considered one of the finest engravers/cutters of the late 19th century. His work was based on the earlier 17th century Bohemian decoration of “Hochschnitt” which is today revered. He was responsible for producing some of the most extraordinary “carved rock crystal” that the firm ever produced. The rock crystal style incorporate 3 main characteristics which included deep cutting, copper-wheel engraving and final polishing. This incredible punch bowl is a truly spectacular and masterful accomplishment. The exquisite detail with repeating design of flowers and leaves around the surface of the bowl, the top having a rolled slightly flared rim with scalloped cut decoration. The cut design even continues on the under surface of the bowl. The piece is signed “W. Fritsche” near the bottom. Examples of this rare cut crystal is very rarely found. SIZE: 10-1/2 dia x 7-1/4″ t.
