LARGE HUBLEY DO-X CAST IRON AIRPLANE.

Interestingly enough this particular toy was modeled after Dornier Do X which was the largest, heaviest and most powerful of the various amphibious planes produced in the late 1920s/1930s. The intent was to be a long range airliner that would land in water. Primarily it was used in Germany, no wonder since it was a German company. It’s interesting how toy companies would sometimes copy into miniature form – cars, airplanes, or boats that were basically used only in other countries. Quite elaborate castings were involved and although this is the largest size, approx 7-1/2″ length, one could have only imagined if it had been the same proportions as the Hubley America…of course a child probably would have been unable to lift or play with a toy of that magnitude. Its probably in the top five of most difficult iron airplanes to find, especially in very fine condition with no damage to the castings and/or repaint. Toy is enameled in robin’s egg blue with red ribbed wing and the six nickel plated motors attached atop of the wing. Overall very rare and desirable toy in very fine all-original untouched condition. A light cleaning & polishing would certainly enhance the appeal of this toy as well as remove 70 plus years of shelf dust. SIZE: Approx 7-1/2″ l with 7-1/2″ wing span. CONDITION: A great toy; condition as stated above. 1-14373 (1,500-2,500) – Lot 1421
