LARGE HUBLEY LINDY CAST IRON AIRPLANE WITH WING DECALS.

The largest of the Lindy airplanes manufactured by Hubley, this particular plane has the simulated ribbed cabin and an aluminum cowl behind the motor along with an elaborate wheel support structure on the front end. Enameled in gray with red highlighting to lettering and black highlighting to lettering on tail fin. Perhaps the most interesting feature are the two, square decals on the left and right wing tips. The left wing tip has a picture of Lindy himself with “LINDBERGH OUR EAGLE” and a picture on the right wing with Lindbergh and writing in German(?). The decals are definitely of the time period and correct and one can only suppose that this plane was made for export…an unanswered question? As the plane is pulled along the floor a pulley with spring activates and pulls the propeller. Overall the plane is in very good plus original condition but would benefit greatly by a good cleaning and polishing to remove years of dust and grime. SIZE: Wingspan is approx 13-1/4″. CONDITION: One front rubber tire has flattened with age and rear gray rubber tire is elongated and flattened somewhat as well. 8-76385 (1,500-2,000) – Lot 1416
