PAIR OF KILGORE “TAT” CAST IRON AIRPLANES.The Killgore Tat Airplane or at least the large size was probably one of the most realistic toy airplanes ever produced by any of the toy companies. The ribbed cabin and wing also feature large lettering at the rear of the fuselage… and TAT with an arrow pointing forward through the lettering. This particular plane is especially susceptible to damage most notably in the tail section where the toy was riveted together. Often times if the toy was dropped or played with a little too roughly the tail section would break or have damage. The wing was attached by means of a screw and the struts and wheel coverings on the underside were often susceptible to damage. This particular toy had none of that but does have a very fine hairline where wing is attached at fuselage. The secondary plane is a small version also marked TAT NC-491 on the wing. Just a nice go with for the big plane. As a matter of reference TAT stood for Trans Continental Air Transport and started business in 1929 and being bought out in 1939 by TWA. SIZE: 13-1/2″ and 5-1/2″ respectively. CONDITION: The large TAT overall is very good plus, the small version is very fine plus. 8-76387-1, 8-76390 (2,000-3,000) – Lot 1415 Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll Auction - Fall 2014 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
