HUBLEY CAST IRON “FRIENDSHIP SEAPLANE”.

A classic and perhaps Hubley’s most desirable of the various cast iron airplanes they produced. This elaborate tri-motor plane with pontoons for landing on the water is enameled in yellow with light blue highlighting. When the toy was rolled along the ground, the rear wheels by means of springs and pulleys would cause the 3 props to spin and a clicker would make a simulated engine noise. It is a particularly heavy toy with fragile castings and very vulnerable to damage/cracks to the iron casting. Retains its original Hubley decal on the tip of the wing, unusual feature, factory or perhaps afterwards, the bottoms of the pontoons are painted black; this is very aged paint and no true indication of whether it was done at the factory or at home by a child. SIZE: Wing span 12-3/4″. CONDITION: Overall paint is very good to very good plus. One wooden hub on front tire missing but grey rubber tire is present and intact. 8-76382 (3,000-4,000) – Lot 1413
