SPENCER CIVIL WAR ERA REPEATING CARBINE. Cal. 56RF. Standard carbine with 21″ round bbl, square base front sight and ladder rear sight, usual markings on top of the receiver, standard wood with sling swivel in the buttstock and the outline of a cartouche just back of the sling bar. There are various inspector marks on the small pieces. Both sides of the buttstock are stamped in 1/4″ letters “J. RUSSELL” and both sides have a large carved brand of “RT” connected. SN 37669. CONDITION: About good. No original finish remains. Bbl is a dark, smooth patina with some scattered light rust pitting. Receiver has traced of silvered case colors with light surface rust and a couple of heavier pits near the forearm. Wood is sound, dark and oil stained. Mechanics are fine. Strong bore with good shine and scattered pitting. 4-47237 JR467 (1,000-1,500)
