UNSIGNED (American, 19th Century) TROMP L’OEIL THE CARD PLAYERS.

Watercolor collage Housed in a modern black & gold antique style frame with white mat Unsigned NOTE: This original piece actually has two hand watercolor simulated pieces of currency that overlapped the original mat & in front of the watercolor of the people playing cards. The original mat was painstakingly separated and replaced to conserve the picture. Close examination of both the card players & the currency show a remarkable sense of detail & accuracy. Certainly of the talent of Victor Debreuil or John Haberle SIZE: Sight including mat: 13-3/4″ x 15-1/2″. Overall: 18-1/4″ x 20-1/4″ CONDITION: Watercolor of card player is very good. The front bill has two short tears on left & right corners (most likely a result of the conservation). There is an evident waterstain outline which may be intentional by the artist 50807-12 (2,000-3,000) – Lot 1400
