COLLECTION OF 3 OUTSTANDING STEIFF FOXES.

This highly desirable lot consists one mid-20th century and two more vintage Steiff foxes. All have big tails, brown and black pupil eyes, and perfectly scaled black hand embroidered noses and mouths. The most vintage fox is sitting and head jointed. The tips of his ears are highlighted with black. Like foxes from his period, he has a wonderful, distinctly shaped “Teddy bear” muzzle and nose area. Old sitting fox’s IDs have been lost to time. This sitting fox pattern was produced in 4 sizes ranging from 14 to 25 cm from 1916-1927 overall. The larger standing fox is made from beautifully highlighted tan and light copper wool plush. Although this pattern appears in the 1892-1943 Steiff Sortiment as being produced in 14, 17, and 22 cm from 1933-1935, this particular model has an all capital letter STEIFF button. This suggests that he may have been produced before the war, put into storage, and then buttoned and distributed when the factory reopened for toy business in the late 1940’s. The third fox is a small standing Xorry. He is unjointed and the backs of his ears are made from black velvet. Xorry retains his button as his ID. Xorry was made in 11, 18, and 28 cm from 1960-1969. SIZE: Largest is 6″ h; smallest is 3-1/2″ h. PROVENANCE: From a fine collection. CONDITION: Oldest fox as noted, with extensive mohair thinning and general playwear.
