COLLECTION OF 3 MARVELOUS STEIFF FOXES.

This exceptional lot consists of one early and two mid-20th century Steiff foxes. All are made from mohair and have brown and black pupil eyes. The most vintage Steiff is five ways jointed. The tips of his ears are highlighted with longer black mohair. He has a wonderful, distinctly shaped “Teddy bear” muzzle and nose area. Fox has just a few traces of his black hand embroidered claws and nose remaining. Jointed fox was produced in 5 sizes ranging from 14 to 43 cm from 1909-1933 overall. Old fox’s IDs have been lost to time. Both smaller foxes are named Xorry and are unjointed. Each has long, fuzzy tails that make up almost half their length. The backs of standing Xorry’s ears are made from black velvet; sitting Xorry’s ears are all mohair. Both Xorry foxes retain their Steiff button as their ID; standing Xorry also has his chest tag. Sitting Xorry was produced in two sizes in the early 1960; standing Xorry was made in 11, 18, and 28 cm from 1960-1969. SIZE: Largest is 5-1/2″ h; smallest is 3-1/2″ h. PROVENANCE: From a fine Massachusetts collection. CONDITION: Oldest fox as noted, with mohair thinning and general playwear.
