RARE AND LOVELY STEIFF PRESSED FELT FACED DOLL.

Here is an exceptional example of Steiff’s “pressed felt” face dolls. This is Irmgard, who is standing, five ways (head, legs and arms) jointed, excelsior stuffed, and made entirely from flesh colored felt. Her arms hang loosely by her sides. Her arms are bent slightly at the elbows, and she has very defined fingers. Her face is highly textured, with chubby cheeks, a realistic mouth, pert nose, and lifelike glass eyes embedded in eye sockets. Even her little ears are sculpted just like a child’s. She is finished with a blond mohair wig, which is seamlessly integrated into her head structure. Like all of Steiff’s pressed felt dolls of the time, Irmgard is dressed to the nines. She sports white underwear, a white blouse, and a red, white, and blue cotton dress. Her footwear also is removable and consists of white socks and red felt Mary-Jane style shoes. And the crown of her outfit must be her red and blue felt bonnet, which is trimmed with a red ribbon. The doll retains her red imprinted and early chest tag, red rubber ID bracelet, and US Zone tag as her Steiff IDs. This doll was produced overall from 1939-1941 and then again from 1949-1950; her combination of IDs suggests that she was made in the later time frame. SIZE: 12″ h. PROVENANCE: From a fine collection. CONDITION: A few very tiny holes and divots in unobtrusive places, otherwise very good. 1-14592 (1,000-1,500) – Lot 1373
