Oil on canvas laid to a plywood panel Housed in an antique gilt gesso decorated frame with two gilt liners (intact having age toned surface) Titled on label affixed to frame “Thomas Moran/Oil/Grand Canyon/The Laura Davidson Sears Collection, The Elgin Academy Art Gallery, Elgin Illinois Numbered “17” in pencil on verso of panel Signed indistinctly lower right in red paint with what appears to be “Th.”, parts of a last name and “pinx” Accompanying the painting is an Examination Report and Treatment Proposal by Ruth Barach Cox, Painting Conservation Inc. Along with the written documents are six large color photographs, one close up of the signature area SIZE: 20-1/2″ x 19-1/2″. Overall: 33-1/2″ x 33″ PROVENANCE: Accompanying the painting is the original receipt from Lenz Art Studio, Milwaukee, WI 12/2/67 for purchase by Mr. Erdmann of Snow Hill, NC. Also is a photocopy of parts of the American Painting Catalog, this painting being No. 203 by the Lenz Art Gallery CONDITION: Horizontal band of loss, overall heavy varnish, significant losses along bottom and scattered losses throughout 52031-2 (2,500-4,000) – Lot 1294
