*CASED PAIR OF COLT SIGNATURE SERIES MODEL 1861 NAVY REVOLVERS 3RD GENERATION CONVERTED TO CARTRIDGE.

SN 44961/44154. 1) Cal .38 LC, 7-1/2″ bbl, blue and case colored finish. Straight grain walnut grip. Bbl has 1-line Colt New York address. Dove-tail blade front sight. Bbl is marked on the bottom “black powder only R & D Beloit WI U.S.A.” Bottom of bbl at the forward end has loading lever latch dove-tail filled. Bbl also has rammer hole filled. Ejector rod attached to right side of bbl. SN matches on bbl, frame, and trigger guard. Last 3 digits of number are stamped on cyl and butt of grip. Arbor has last 2 digits of SN stamped. Frame is of the 4-screw type and has a cartridge conversion ring installed, with loading gate. Loading gate is not marked. Trigger guard has .36 cal stamped on rear left side. Backstrap has “Sam Colt” in script rolled into the center. Cyl has Naval scene and Colt’s Patent mark below which is rolled “Engraving by W.L. Backstrap has “Sam Colt” in script rolled into the center. Cyl has Naval scene and Colt’s Patent mark below which is rolled “Engraving by W.L. Ormsby, New York”. These revolvers were converted to cartridge by Kenny Howell, circa 2001. Case is American walnut with nice joinery, 2 latches, 3 hinges, and 2 brass hinged lid braces. Case is marked “REW 2012” inside lid to the right side of the center hinge. Case has a long cartridge block/divider with a place for 12 cartridges. Case lining is padded blue velvet. PROVENANCE: The Brad Shepherd Collection. CONDITION: 1) Very fine. Bbl retains 98% blue finish that was applied after conversion. Slight muzzle wear on left side with a scratch behind muzzle. Bbl address is sharp. Bore is frosty with strong rifling. Bbl lug has some spots to the finish on right side. Ejector rod housing is plumb patina with some spotting on outer edge. Receiver retains 98% case colored finish, with some spotting on left side of re-coil shield and conversion ring. Hammer retains 98% case color with some slight scratching on the sides. Screws retain nearly all of their blue finish. Trigger screw is a replacement and shows a plumb brown finish. Trigger retains nearly all the orig blue finish. Trigger guard and backstrap also retain nearly all of the blue finish, with a couple of small scratches. Markings are sharp. Cyl retains 98% orig blue finish with a fine scene and sharp markings. There is a slight drag mark at the rear. Grips retain nearly all of their varnish finish with only slight handling marks. 2) Very good to fine. Bbl retains 90% blue finish, that was applied at the time of conversion. Bbl has muzzle wear on both sides, sharp address, and some small dents around the wedge. Bore is dark. Ejector rods housing is a plumb blue patina with front edge wear. Bore is dark with traces of rifling. Frame and conversion ring retain 95% muted case color. Markings are sharp. Loading gate has small scratches. Hammer retains 80% muted case color, with scratching on the side. Trigger retains traces of blue. Screws retain nearly all of their blue finish. Iron, trigger guard, and backstrap also retain 95% blue finish with sharp markings. Cyl has a good scene with sharp markings. Face of cyl is worn with some small dents, distinct drag mark on rear periphery. Grips are fine and retain all of their varnish finish, with only slight handling marks.
