FRANK TOWNSEND HUTCHENS (American, 1869-1937) “AUTUMN TAOS CANYON”.Oil on canvas Housed in a fine carved & gilt period frame attributed to Jean Woolsey (some finish loss) Signed lower left “Frank Townsend Hutchens Taos”; Paper label with artist title & “Return to Jean Woolsey Taos, New Mexico” on verso NOTE:We believe this work was created circa 1931-1932 as this was the only time that this artist is known to have painted in Taos Hutchens was born in Canandaigua, New York and was a painter of landscape, portraits & figures and was also noted for his watercolors. He studied with Irving R. Wiles & Frank DuMond at the Art Students League as well as in Paris where he was a member of the Paris Association of American Artists SIZE: 36-1/2″ x 40″. Overall: 43-1/2″ x 47-1/2″ CONDITION: Surface dirt, lower right corner with 1″ puncture and small chip in green area; otherwise very good 52124-3 (8,000-12,000) – Lot 1281
