COLT MODEL 1862 POLICE CARTRIDGE REVOLVER WITH RICHARD/MASON CONVERSION MCDOWELL TYPE 5 “S” LUG ROUND BARREL WITH EJECTOR.

SN 10559. Cal. 38 CF. 5 1/2″ bbl. Full nickel finish with varnished walnut grip. Bbl shows 2-line Colt address and pin front sight. Bbl lug is not filled. Frame shows 2-line patent address on forward left side. Left rear side of trigger guard shows 36 cal. Cylinder shows stagecoach scene. SN matches on bbl, frame, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder and in backstrap channel of grip. Arbor is no. 1426. Wedge is not numbered. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. “Bill” Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: Very good. Bbl and ejector rod retain 60-70% orig nickel finish with a sharp bbl address. Bore is dark with strong rifling. Front sight is good. Frame retains about 50% thinning finish with sharp patent marks. Screws are good. Hammer retains traces of case color on either side. Trigger is plum-brown patina. Trigger guard retains 20% flaked nickel finish. Backstrap retains 80% dull nickel finish. Bottom of backstrap and grip have been used as hammer with numerous bruises and dents. Cylinder retains 60-70% nickel finish with very good cylinder scene, sharp Colt’s patent mark, and sharp SN. Grip retains 80% orig varnish finish with high point wear and numerous mars and dents overall. A really nice Colt “Baby Open Top” revolver. 49973-229 TEP (1,500-2,500) – Lot 1281
