RARE COLT OPEN TOP MODEL 1871 REVOLVER.

SN 5013. Cal. 44 RF. This honest, original example of Colt’s first 44 cal rimfire Army revolver is the direct predecessor of Colt single action revolver. About 7000 of this model was made in 1872 and 1873. This example conforms to other standard models with 2-line patent addresses on left side of frame, 1-line New York address 7-1/2″ bbl. These guns typically saw very hard use and this is an honest survivor. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. “Bill” Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: Matching SN are found on bbl, frame, trigger guard, backstrap and inked on backstrap channel of grips. Cylinder is worn smooth, with no discernible number but matches gun well as far as color and surface. Wedge has no SN. Metal overall is cleaned with gray overall patina. Markings are all discernible. Grips fit gun well with hand worn patina over some well executed but worn crosshatching. Mechanically gun functions well with discernible rifling in pitted bore. 49973-158 JS (2,000-4,000) – Lot 1259
