TWO AMERICAN PAINTED CLOTH DOLLS.

Larger of the two is a so-called “Philadelphia Baby” made by Shepard, with molded and painted head and lower limbs and stockinette covered body. Smaller doll is made of a similar construction however made by Martha Chase and has sateen covered torso. SIZE: Larger: 21″ t (53 cm). Smaller: 18″ t (46 cm). PROVENANCE: The Madelyn Trotter Collection. CONDITION: Both show some typical paint wear, particularly the Philadelphia Baby which has significant nose wear and overall crazing and deterioration to the head. 1-14447, 1-14469 (500-700) – Lot 1259
