ATTRIBUTED TO MAURICE QUENTIN DE LA TOUR (French, 1704-1788) PORTRAIT OF LOUIS, DAUPHIN DE FRANCE.Pastel on canvas, mounted on board Housed in a modern gesso decorated frame with mat & inner gilt edge behind glass Unsigned NOTE: Son of King Louis XV and Queen Marie Leszczynska, Father of Louis XVI, Louis XVIII & Charles X. Was born in Versailles September 4, 1729 and died at the Chateaux de Fontainbleau December 20, 1765. REFERENCE: There is another portrait of the sitter at an earlier age by the same artist (dated 1745) in the Louvre. A preparatory study on brown paper, apparently for the present work, is preserved at the Musée Antoine-Lécuyer, a museum devoted to the works of de la Tour that contains many materials from his atelier.
