SCARCE COLT 1851 NAVY THIRD MODEL WITH SMALL IRON GUARD.SN 72670. Cal. 36. Usual configuration with 7-1/2″ oct bbl, New York City bbl address, Ormsby Naval battle scene on 6-shot cylinder, left side of frame marked “Colts Patent”. Small iron trigger guard with front and backstrap orig silver-plated. There is a very small “2” at bottom of bbl assembly where it meets frame on left side. PROVENANCE: The Estate of G. W. “Bill” Stewart of Sonora, Texas. CONDITION: Very good, bbl having been cleaned long ago has turned a pleasing gray. Loading lever retains a generous amount of orig case color perhaps as much as 30% with a small area of corrosion at plunger. Cylinder scene is very good with a few small spots of corrosion, 70-80% visible. Frame retains approximately 40-50% orig case color particularly nice on right side and recoil shield. Left side with minor scattered corrosion from storage not use. Front and backstrap retain 70-80% orig silver with minor flaking. Grips are excellent with great fit and orig varnish, minor losses at toe and handling marks. Mechanics are crisp. Bore is very good. 49973-85 JSL83 (1,000-2,000) – Lot 1218
