AMERICAN ARMS PATENT ACTION DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12ga. Very unusual early shotgun with 30″ damascus bbls, choked FULL/FULL, wide decorative matted rib with the makers name and “BOSTON” marked near the breech end, with modestly figured walnut wood, checkered splinter forearm and semi-pistol grip stock with original American Arms Co., Bluffton, AL hard rubber buttplate with an eagle in a center oval. The action resembles a box lock type with external cocking, internal hammers. The right sideplate is stamped with the makers name and patent dates “1882” and “1883”. The action can be opened and closed with the use of the top lever without the hammers being cocked. in order to fire, one must depress the knurled levers for each hammer. SN 786. CONDITION: Good to very good. Bbls have been reblued and retain traces of pattern through the blue. Receiver and lockplates retain 50-60% case colors, bright in the sheltered areas. Wood is sound and retains most of an old refinish. Strong bright bores with scattered pitting. 4-45978 JR422 (250-500)
