SOUTHGATE HOMEMADE HEAVY BENCH RIFLE. Cal. 54. Massive homemade bench rifle with 44″ round bbl, 1-3/8″ at the muzzle. Lock is unmarked and convertible from flintlock to percussion or visa versa. It has dbl set triggers and a sight extension as part of the breech plug tang. There is a target sight base at the muzzle. It is all mounted in a massive flat bottomed, 1-pc walnut stock, 58-1/2″ overall length. Buttstock is built on modern lines with a deep pistol grip, Monte Carlo comb with cheek-piece and an old Jostam pad. CONDITION: Fine. Iron retains a dark brown patina, sights are missing, wood has hairline in the wrist. Mechanically fine. Would make a good old shooter. 4-47223 JR466 (500-800)
