REYNOLDS BEAL (American, 1866-1951) “OCEAN FISHERMEN”, OFF MONTAUK LIGHT.

Oil on canvas Housed in a vintage gold finished frame with plaque bearing artist name & painting title Signed lower left “Reynolds Beal”, titled on stretcher and label affixed to verso and dated “1923” Literature: Sidney Bressler, “Reynolds Beal Impressionist Landscapes and Seascapes”, New Jersey: Associated University Presses, 1989, #814, pg 130 NOTE: Painted from sketches drawn from his Sharpie Yawl off Montauk Light, Beal captures and ocean fisherman at sea fishing for swordfish. The fishing schooner is headed into the wind with her sails luffing, awaiting the rowing dory carrying their catch, a swordfish, lashed to its stern. This fine painting exemplifies the artist’s working understanding of boats, wind, & waves. It was created in Beal’s Noank, CT studio where he summered for many years SIZE: 30″ x 48″.
