SCARCE HOWARD THUNDERBOLT RIFLE.

SN 778 C. Cal. 44 Rimfire. The Whitney – Howard lever action hammerless single shot breech loader better known as the Howard Thunder Bolt was manufactured between 1866 – 1870. Bbl length: 24-1/2”. Marked “MANUF’D. FOR-HOWARD-BROS.-BY-WHITNEY-ARMS-CO.-WHITNEYVILLE-CONN.” on the right side of the bbl. “C. HOWARD PATENTED.SEPT. 26 &OCT 10.1865-OCT. 28 1862” on the left. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Phil A. Bleakney, Jr. CONDITION: Fine overall, bbl retains about 30% of its original blue finish with balance blue/plum, other metal is gray/plum.
