FRANK WESSON EARLY 3RD TYPE SINGLE SHOT RIFLE.

SN 384. Cal. 44. Standard sporting rifle with 28″ medium weight oct bbl, silver pin front sight & fixed rear sight. Slotted retainer is on left side & hammer has the adjustable nose for rim fire or center fire with 1872 patent date on left side. Mounted with uncheckered tiger striped walnut buttstock. About 7,500 of these rifles were produced 1872-1888. This rifle has been bored to a smoothbore. CONDITION: Good to very good. Bbl retains traces or orig blue in the more sheltered areas, being an overall smooth plummy brown patina. Frame & trigger guard are a lighter plummy brown patina. Hammer shows light case colors on right side. Top tang has a plugged screw hole. buttplate is a blue/gray patina on the face. Wood is sound with an old sanded refinish. Mechanics are fine. Bright bore with pitting & a ring about 6-7″ from the breech end. 50150-3 (2,000-3,000) – Lot 1150
