LARGE GALLE MARQUETRY BUTTERFLY VASE.

Large Galle vase is internally decorated with a band of mottled amber surrounding the foot giving way to clear with tiny controlled bubbles which in turn gives way to an irregular band of purple at the top. Vase is further decorated with 2 stylized marquetry butterflies 1 red and white and 1 a wispy pastel peach, butterflies bodies, eyes and feelers are delicately wheel-carved as are the swirled lines behind the butterflies depicting wind carrying them. There is a third purple free form marquetry inlay on the side of the vase near the foot which is not carved. Signed on the front below the red butterfly with engraved signature “Galle”. SIZE: 13-3/4″ t. PROVENANCE: Dr. Mark Jackson Collection. CONDITION: Very good with a few open bubbles on the edge of the foot; polished at the factory.
