THE POLITE CHAUFFEUR LIMOUSINE BY RI-CO.

Most likely this car is from the late teens/early 20s and comes with its original cardboard box, attributed to William Rissman Co. from Nuremburg, Germany. The ingenuity in designing a toy of this nature and how it works is just amazing. When the car is wound up it moves forward suddenly stopping and the chauffeur emerges from his door and assists the female passenger in the rear of the limousine, hence the name of the car “The Polite Chauffeur”. Overall typical 1920s lithography, the toy is in remarkable all-original condition, very fine plus, and has lithographed solid disk tires with a litho’d spare tire at the rear. Markings on the rear of the vehicle include “Made in Germany” and the Ri-Co trademark. Passenger compartment also has an opening and closing right side door as well. Oftentimes one would not think twice when first observing a toy like this, but when they see the action it can become a strong desire to own. Rarely does this toy surface to the market, let alone in its original box. Just a great toy. Original paper tag is still suspended to key wind mechanism by red string giving directions in German, English and French. SIZE: Approx 9-1/2″ l. PROVENANCE: The Estate of Carol and Jerry Soling. CONDITION: As stated above, minor wear most noticeable to where chauffeur’s door opens & closes. Box overall is fairly strong, one end flap missing on lid. 1-14779-1 (1,000-1,500) – Lot 1112
