LEHMANN WALKING DOWN BROADWAY WITH OB.Perhaps one of Lehmann’s most visually attractive as well as highly sought after toys. This particular example retains its original parts such as the ladies’ purse, his walking stick, and their accompanying four-legged friend the dog. Not your typical windup, it was propelled by a friction type drive and a long rod would be attached to the gear edge protruding from the woman’s skirt. A fly wheel contained within the woman’s body would then spin and the wheels on the underside would allow the toy to propel forward in a lifelike manner. Wonderful early fine lithography with some wear most notable where the woman’s bag and arm would brush against her skirt. The box itself overall is very strong with some taping to the lid edge and a wonderful black & white picture of the toy with directions of operation. It appears that the original owner’s name was written on the underside of the box “Mr. & Mrs. Clare Day”. A tough toy to find but only a handful exist with their original boxes! Mr. Soling created a plexiglass display case for display purposes with a simulated brick street and a lamp to further enhance the overall visual attractiveness of this toy. SIZE: Approx 7-1/2″ t. PROVENANCE: The Estate of Carol and Jerry Soling. CONDITION: As stated above. 1-14618 (5,500-7,500) – Lot 1051 Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll Auction - Fall 2014 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
