THRIFTY TOM’S JIGGER BANK, PAN-G FUNNY DANCER, AND AN UNUSUAL STANDING JIGGER TOY.Thrifty Tom Jigger Bank manufactured by Ferdinand Strauss worked on the premise of when a coin was deposited in the coin slot, the jigger would do a dance about the stage. This particular toy was the only version to have this lithography including simulated coins on the stage area and the words emblazoned on the longer sides “Thrifty Tom’s Jigger Bank” with a beehive in the center. One wonders the significance of the beehive with the simulated bees flying about. The figure himself also had slightly unique lithography with striped pants as opposed to the typical checkered pants. The Pan-G as discussed with the earlier model is quite unusual having been manufactured by C.E. Carter Toy Co. The third is an interesting variation which is seldom found, of unknown manufacture, depicting a black gentleman standing atop a circular base. A clockwork mechanism contained within his body, and the fellow would do a jig just moving his legs. Slightly more muted and less visually attractive litho with single color arms, this toy was obviously a low budget toy made for the masses. The figure itself is about 1-1/2″ smaller than the typical Coon figure, yet this is a relatively uncommon and elusive black jigger toy. SIZE: Approx 10-1/2″, 10-1/2″ and 7-1/2″ t.respectively. PROVENANCE: The Estate of Carol and Jerry Soling. CONDITION: Thrifty Tom is in very fine to near mint condition. Pan-G also is very fine plus, however he is lacking tin sleeve to hold figure in place and attach to mechanism. A minor and inexpensive repair. 1-14737, 1-14740-1 (600-900) – Lot 1042 Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll Auction - Fall 2014 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
