MOODY & SANKY “HOLD THE FORT” STILL BANK.

An interesting bank manufactured by Smith & Egge. The base upon which it sits is similar in nature to the large Crown bank manufactured by J. & E. Stevens. Perhaps of note is the gentlemen pictured within where actually religious revivalists during the 1870s & 1880s. One begins to wonder is perhaps the manufacturer of this bank had similar religious beliefs, and thus, that was his purpose of producing a bank of this nature. Comparing this bank to the Stevens Crown bank, the similarities are quite evident and perhaps they used the Stevens model to create this particular bank. A “picture frame” on the front held the pictures of Moody & Sanky with a note underneath either saying “Hold the Fort” or “90 and 9” (purported to be one of Sanky’s favorite hymns). A rare bank in very fine original condition. The pictures visible on front are possible copies/replacements(?). “Hold the Fort” paper label appears to be original. SIZE: Approx 5″ t. PROVENANCE: The Estate of Carol and Jerry Soling. CONDITION: Overall very fine plus. Slightly heavier chipping to top of red roof. 1-14645 (2,500-3,500) – Lot 1025
