WINCHESTER 2ND MODEL 1873 HALF ROUND HALF OCTAGON BARREL DELUXE RIFLE WITH CASE COLORED RECEIVER AND SHOTGUN BUTT.SN 72085. Cal. 38 WCF. 24″ half rnd/half oct bbl with half magazine, blue and case color finish. Highly figured American walnut stocks with checkered pistol grip, checkered fore-end, and shotgun butt. Bbl has standard 2-line address in front of rear sight and cal mark at breech end. Bbl is equipped with a Beaches combination front sight with “certifiable antique ivory” bead and standard semi-buckhorn rear sight. Receiver is of the stepped variety. Dust cover guide rail is attached with a screw. Lower tang is marked on the inside “XX” with assembly no. 589. Lower tang is from a different rifle. Upper tang mounts a Marble’s tang sight. SN is stamped on lower tang behind lever. Elevator is stamped .38 cal. Buttstock has been repaired on the inside of the tang mortises with fiberglass filler. There is no assembly number visible. Buttplate has assembly no. 62 stamped at toe on the inside. Stock has “XXX” figuring. Pistol grip is checkered in a diamond pattern with an ebony insert. Fore-end is also checkered in a diamond pattern. Fore-end has a noticeable gap at the receiver. Special Note: This item contains or is made of ivory. This information is located in the front section of our catalog. CONDITION: Good. Bbl has a plumb brown patina overall with sharp markings. Sights are very good. Bore is frosty with strong rifling. Receiver is a silver gray patina overall with traces of case color, especially on left side near hammer. Dust cover is a mottled brown patina. Hammer and lever are a plumb brown patina. Elevator is a light yellow patina and has been cleaned. Cal mark is sharp. Tang has a sharp SN. Stock does not quite fit and has been filled at the fore-end toward the receiver. Lower tang screw does not fit. Upper tang screw is a replacement. Stock has an old varnish finish with numerous handling marks overall. Buttplate is a dark brown patina. Checkering is sharp with 2 repairs at the wrist. Checkering has been refreshed. Fore-end checkering has also been refreshed.
