PAIR OF “CITY BANKS WITH PAYING TELLER” BY JUDD (DEEP & NARROW VERSIONS).

Iron castings produced in the latter part of the 19th century were often very fine & thin with an abundance of intricate detail to said castings. A relatively obscure and seldom found, the first version of the city bank is the much rarer deep bodied building with a depth of approx 4″. Bank retains most of its original japanned finish with a plethora of fine green highlighting to the detailed casting areas of the bank. The second version, the one more commonly found, is the narrow version measuring just a little over 2″ deep. Bank was likely originally japanned with a copper wash over the japanning, and quite a bit of the copper wash still remaining on three of the four sides. A great pair of banks, especially for side-by-side comparison; the one having a slatted roof and the other having a simulated half-circular shingled roof. SIZE: Each is approx 3″ w x 5-1/2″ t. PROVENANCE: The Estate of Carol and Jerry Soling. CONDITION: Overall condition is fine to very fine. 1-14653, 1-14660 (1,000-2,000) – Lot 1010
