IVES BLAKESLEE PAINTED PALACE STILL BANK.Often thought of by most still bank collectors that a bank like this is either the premier or the pinnacle for those collecting building banks. Normally found in a japanned finish, it is a rarity to find a painted version, especially one in this condition. This particular example is polychromed in an apple green with red roof lines, gold highlighting and a painted grass lawn. All too often, the palace bank is susceptible to steeple damage, railing damage and/or chimney turret damage. The trap with the embossed letters “I.B. & Co.” appears to be either an original trap from a japanned version or a replacement trap that has been painted red to match the rear facade of the bank. Paint overall is very fine plus and perhaps a light polishing would enhance the vibrancy of the paint? SIZE: Approx 8″ w x 5″ d x 7-1/2″ t. PROVENANCE: The Estate of Carol and Jerry Soling. CONDITION: As stated above; bank has no apparent damage to iron castings and is overall in excellent plus condition. 1-14640 (4,500-6,500) – Lot 1003 Auction: Advertising, Toy & Doll Auction - Fall 2014 Please Note: All prices include the hammer price plus the buyer’s premium, which is paid by the buyer as part of the purchase price.
