KALEIDOSCOPE CANDY CONTAINER Ca. 1913. Certainly one of the most difficult to find and most sought after of all candy containers. Tin construction with glass horizontal cylinder that revolves when crank is turned. This very container is illustrated in “Collector’s Guide to Candy Containers” by Dezso & Poirier, p. 159. Pat by Turney G. Stough. Retains most of red and cream decal reading “Moving Pictures” with directions for use “By West Bros. & Co., Grapeville, PA”. SIZE: 6-3/4″ t x 2-3/4″ w. CONDITION: Good to very good. Tin cylinder exhibits scratching and pitting, but appears exactly as it does in photo in Collector’s Guide. Glass cylinder has serpentine crack. REGINA 11” SINGLE COMB MUSIC BOX Nicely carved oak case with heavily carved cherubs, lattice and musical instruments on all four sides and lid. Nice original paper photo in lid. Two very nice celluloid instruction tags inside the box, one is “CAUTION” and the other is “PATENTS”. SIZE: 14-1/2” w x 9” h x 13-1/2” d. CONDITION: Oak case has original finish in nice condition. Very minor scratches and wear. Appears to be mechanically restored. Nice brilliant tone, 2 or 3 dampers need adjusting. Crank is not original. Plays style “G” rolls; two included. SN 158665. SIZE: 48” w x 62” h x 24” d. CONDITION: Oak case is in very good original condition. Finish is slightly darkened with age. There are a dozen or so cigarette burns on the shelf. 3” of the base surrounding sides and front are painted black. Stained glass is near perfect, with only one piece of clear glass cracked. CONDITION: Case is very nicely restored original finish and has been coated over. There is a crack in the back that goes the entire width. Lock for the inner lid is missing. Mechanism is very nicely restored. The crank is original. A few dampers need adjusting. Tune card is missing. Nice brilliant tone. 16 1/2” MANDOLINE-FORTISSIMO MUSIC BOX 12 tune cylinder music box in a bird’s eye box with inlay and banding with black borders and brass handles on both ends. Brass plaque on top says “W. FIRBANK” and under that is “THE GRANGE”. Mother of pearl and brass inlay around brass plaque. SIZE: Case is 32” w x 9” h x 12” d. CONDITION: Bale handle is missing on one end of the case, the other is fully intact. Music box has been restored, but needs damper work. Has a loud brilliant tone. BEAUTIFUL STAFFORD NICKELODEON/ORCHESTRION This beautiful looking and sounding machine is known as an orchestrion. In part because it is very much like an orchestra in that so many different musical devices are involved. In this case flute pipes, bass drum, cymbal, snare drum, tambourine, wood block, piano of course and perhaps most importantly, accordion. Very rarely do you ever find orchestrions with an accordion. This beautiful machine is a conversion from a genuine antique player piano that, at a much later date was built into an orchestrion and at that time all of these musical devices were added. It has a beautifully fabricated oak case in excellent refinished condition, which has been fitted with lovely leaded stained glass panels depicting trees, clouds, rolling hills and a girl playing the flute. Some of the clear glass, together with the illumination inside, makes it possible to view the musical instruments while the music is playing. Also suspended from each side are small stained glass lamps. The machine is sold with six additional contemporary-style “O” rolls. SIZE: 67″w x 80″ h x 31″d. Humorous winter street scene looking east on Broadway in front of Barnum’s Museum that stood at Broadway and Fulton Streets in New York. The colorful winter image shows musicians and spectators reveling in a snow bound scene of sleigh gridlock at the time of Zachary Taylor’s campaign for president. The sleigh on the left bearing the presidential looking graphics is seen full of his raucous supporters. One side has oval with Santa’s face, opposite side has cutout oval to view candy. ANTIQUE CLOCKWORK MECHANICAL SANTA FIGURE Santa dressed in typical red and white overcoat with black pants and boots, glass eyes and fitted with a long cotton beard. The head on a pendulum-like device that was originally hooked up to a clockwork mechanism in the belly. When wound, the mechanism would make the head continually ‘bob’. Circa early 20th century. DENTZEL CARVED CAROUSEL HORSE Outside stander attributable to the Dentzel workshop. Fabulous facial and mane carving details place this among the finest carousel carvings produced. RARE FIRE HOUSE AUTOMATIC ALARM INDICATOR GONG BY THE GAMEWELL FIRE ALARM TELEGRAPH COMPANY, NY This master unit was positioned in the firehouse and received a telegraph signal from various call boxes that were positioned around a city. Boston was the sight of the first installation of this type of system. The Gamewell Co. started in New York and moved to Newton, Mass and recently being acquired by Honeywell. This 19th Century gong is housed in a fine late Victorian walnut case. Three windows, one of which has a three roll number indicator. The middle and bottom windows showing the brass works. All windows have beveled glass. Patent information is seen through top window on brass plate. Case has nice carved crest and carved half columns. Large brass key is present. Gong is 16” dia. KEY CITY HOSE COMPANY SIGN Late 19th C. sign from Sturgis, South Dakota when it was known only as the Dakota Territory. Sturgis was a hub in a gold mining industry and became known as “Key City”. Repose stylized sheet metal skeleton key bearing the words “Key City Hose Co.” in very early paint with the “Key” signifying the first word. SMILIN’ SAM PEANUT VENDOR Ca. 1931. Cast aluminum, one-cent, flat coin entry peanut vendor. Relief lettered, “Smilin’ Sam from Alabam’ – the Salted Peanut Man”. The customer would pull Smilin’ Sam’s tongue in order to get peanuts. Tongue w/decal reading “Thank You”. SIZE: 13-1/2″ h. SWAMI ARCADE FORTUNETELLER W/STAND Floor model machine features a cast aluminum turban clad swami peering into a crystal ball. The operator would insert a penny and turn the handle activating a clockwork mechanism. The mechanism would scroll an internal filmstrip of fortunes while simultaneously activating a light bulb with a large dry cell battery. The fortunes would be projected up into the crystal ball. Mfg. by Future Products Co., Chicago. OVERALL SIZE: 48″ h. CONDITION: Cast pot metal crystal ball has a few cracks and some metal loss to its base; battery dead, currently not operating. MUTOSCOPE MODEL DL ARCADE MACHINE Early electrified “Clamshell” body with original “Iron Horse” base. Marquee has a cardboard insert for silent screen star Ted Wells in the western “Desert Dust”. SCARCE ANTIQUE COIN-OP MUTOSCOPE The risqué title card, “Pretty and peppy, very pretty”, depicts a very scantily clad maiden, but fear not, it is safe, for at the bottom it clearly states, “Approved by New York censor”! Dated 1926, E. S. Co. Case made of oak with beveled mirror in the front, cabriole-shaped legs ending in cast metal and glass ball feet. Complete with key, old original electric cord, plank and original cards. SIZE: Approx. 70″ h (including marquee) x 17-1/2″ w x 17″ d. PEEK SHOW MUTOSCOPE . One-cent mechanism on all-steel cabinet, repainted red. Removed from a closed amusement park in NY State nearly a decade ago. Has factory brass label. Lighted marquee with ladies is marked “Peek Show”. SIZE: 76″ h. overall. RARE GRANITEWARE POPCORN MACHINE The “Prosperity Model” popcorn machine. This electrified popcorn machine has black and gray graniteware porcelain top, side panels and rear doors. The front panel advertises, “Hot Popcorn, Prosperity Model, Advance Mfg. Company, St. Louis, MO”, circa early twentieth century; made somewhere during the teens up to the 30’s. COCA-COLA GLASCOCK COOLER Full size cooler with embossed tin advertising panels on all four sides. Metal tag reads “The Coca-Cola Company Cooler Patented March 4, 1930. Mfg. by Glascock Bros. Mfg. CONDITION: Cooler legs have been cut down just above the lower case storage rack; no top; embossed side panels in fair condition with surface pitting and fade to color. 1-558 (300-500)

“STRIKING CLOCK” ARCADE STRENGTH TESTER W/STAND Oak case machine on tall c.i. base. Features large opposing handles and a Roman Numeral clock face styled strength indicator. A chain drive mechanism would ring the bell at the top for champion strong men. MACHINE SIZE: 16” w x 40” t x 10” d. LIFT-O-GRAPH ARCADE STRENGTH TESTER Seldom seen, electrified machine with tall oak cabinet on massive c.i. platform. Depositing one cent would allow customer to pull up on the large steel handle to measure their strength. The handle pull would move a monkey up a pole on a chain mechanism in front of a silk screened painted jungle scene background. Colored lights and a bell at the top would comparatively measure the strength of each strongman. Metal tag reads “International Mutoscope Reel Co.” SIZE: 23″ w x 98″ t x 36” d. Terrific deco. interior aluminum castings of the Empire State Building flank a background scene of ironworkers erecting steel girders on a city skyscraper. Includes two bags of prizes and capsules. ELECTRICITY IS LIFE ARCADE COIN OP Early machine that would administer an electric current via two dry cell batteries to the operator after depositing one cent. Front panel displays two embossed tin signs printed by the Standard Adv. Co., promoting the electric shock treatment as a tonic cure for headaches, neuralgia, rheumatism, and nervousness with one-cent mechanism. Steel cabinet on oak base.
